Big Business Strategies tailored for the Little guy

Big Impact in Corporate Retail

Sentience Marketing was created by marketing and e-commerce professional, Jerry Wu, who spent his entire career in online and offline retail. With over 20 years in ‘big box’ retailers like The Gap and Bloomingdale’s Department Stores, he managed store operations, international e-commerce, major creative campaigns and digital programs. He spearheaded the opening of small format luxury stores targeting international clientele, and worked with major movie studios and video game companies for out-of-the-box brand campaigns. One of his most notable campaigns was bringing Lunar New Years retail celebration to the US, the impact of which can still be felt today. Businesses that hand out “red envelope promotions” and create Lunar New Year exclusive product are done as a continuation of the programming Jerry brought during his department store work.

Throughout his experience, he loved working with smaller brands that had the desire to participate in campaigns but may not have been nimble enough operationally to pull it off. These businesses believed they couldn’t dedicate resources to initiatives that deviated from their core products. But really there was very little difference between small businesses and large businesses outside of formalized operational processes and armies of executives who would be responsible for a fraction of each department. Smaller businesses just had less people doing everything.

Helping Start Ups Succeed

It was then that he decided to bring his skills to various start ups. He wanted to give businesses with cool ideas the chance to be successful by reframing their processes and strategies. Working in the appliances, auto and bath industries, he worked directly with business owners to exponentially scale up their businesses. He formalized company structures, re-worked businesses models and created technological infrastructures to make small teams work more efficiently and productively. He also revamped product data across multiple commerce platforms, launched web stores on Amazon, Ebay and Walmart and established a major presence with the Google suite of advertising products. All with the goal of getting small businesses to operate like a big business and start accelerating their revenue growth. And within a year, these companies started to see wider margins and increased revenue.

A Vision of Success

With Sentience Marketing, Jerry wanted to work with everyday entrepreneurs who want to make a difference but don’t necessarily know what the next step is. A strong believer in right brain/left brain balance, he loves working with people to identify both creative and analytical strategies they can implement to immediately make their businesses operate more smoothly.

Very often, small business owners get tunnel vision and rely only on what works because they are so busy. Sentience Marketing wants to help provide the 50,000 ft view of the business that no one has the time for. By creating some simple solutions early on, businesses can continue doing what they do well while not having to suffer the operational growing pains that many undergo. All it takes is for someone to come in, analyze the pain points, reframe the issues and implement creative solutions for success.
